The Blue Jackal and The White Jackal
The Blue and White Jackal
As a child everyone must have heard story of “The blue Jackal” from Panchatantra. As the Story goes, A jackal by name Chandrava in search of food enters into village. He is chased out by dogs. While running to save his life he fell into drum of blue dye. When he comes out dogs do not recognize him and leave him assuming him to be some strange animal. The dye does not come out easily. The Blue jackal enters into jungle. All the animals are scared of this new creature. The Jackal understands the situation and tells all the animals in jungle not to be afraid of him. He tells animals The God has specially created him with his own hand and has said “the jungle has no proper king, go to the jungle and protect the animals” He further tells the animals “Come and live under my protection as I have been crowned king of all three the three worlds.”
Animals were convinced by him and said to him “O master we await your command, please let us know what you want us to do”. The blue jackal assigned everyone their duties mainly to serve him. He was afraid that other jackals may recognize him so they were chased out of the Jungle. Smaller animals would serve him with his other duties while bigger animals would hunt. He would distribute food among himself and others. One day The Blue Jackal heard pack of jackals howling, he couldn’t resists himself and started howling. The lion and other animals immediately recognized him and he was beaten to death for fooling them.
The Blue Jackal story seems to be unfolding today.
A power hungry jackal enters into Village. He is chased out by dogs. While running for life he fells into drum of white colour. When he comes out he is PURE WHITE in colour. Dogs are not able to recognize him. Assuming him to be rarest animal, they leave him and rush back to village. He goes back to Jungle. All the animals of jungle are scared of him. They have never seen PURE WHITE animal before. They are terrorized.
He tells them not to be afraid of him. He has been created specially by God to rule them. God has made him most honest animal on earth. He has left his previous jungle to save animals of this jungle. To prove his might he comes out with expose of some animals of the jungle. The animals of jungle are convinced about his claim of Most Honest animal. They ask him to be their king and tell him how they can serve him.
The Intelligent animals are chased out of jungle. The White Jackal assigns work to all the animals. The smaller animals are asked to serve him while big animals are assigned work to collect fund err.. hunt. White Jackal divides catch among himself and others. Thus the PURE WHITE jackal becomes undisputed ruler of the jungle.
Sooner or later as the original story goes pack of jackals will howl and this white Jackal will not able to resist himself. He has almost reached a point where his true colour is about to come out. Unfortunately the end will be same like blue jackal. People of Indian democracy will reject him badly.
Panchatantra Stories are relevant even today. The blue jackal may be replaced by white / red or pink colour but sooner or later the different colour jackal may meet same end as the blue jackal.
